This World Suicide Prevention Day, Redwood worked with our client Considerate Constructors Scheme to publicise the progress the construction and development industry is making in addressing suicide, and other serious mental health challenges, across Britain’s job sites.

Speaking in Construction News, on the day the Prince of Wales launched his On Your Side campaign, CCS’ MD – Desiree Blamey – discussed the shocking, continued, prevalence of suicide within the construction sector. With two construction workers dying by suicide every day, it has quickly become one of the greatest threats to life and wellbeing within the sector – with the CIOB finding more than one in four construction workers (28 per cent) have experienced suicidal thoughts in the past year.

Reflecting CCS’ role as a facilitator of progress and reform within the sector, Desiree outlined the positive steps being taken both at corporate levels (through the growing adoption of BS 30480) and on-site (via the hiring of dedicated mental health first aiders) to help colleagues and implement processes to provide protect to those experiencing suicidal thoughts.

These processes can institute real change and benefits from construction workers across the UK and Redwood is proud to be assisting CCS in this important work.
